A Lasting Impact

At Maitland Pediatric Dentistry, it’s all about creating smiles that last a lifetime.

A child’s smile is a precious thing, and ensuring their dental health from a young age is essential for a lifetime of confident grins. In Maitland, parents are fortunate to have Dr. Domenic Aloise, a dedicated dental professional who specializes in the oral care of children. Dr. Aloise is not just a dental practitioner; he is a smile advocate, helping children build healthy dental habits that will last a lifetime. We sat down with Dr. Aloise to explore the importance of pediatric dentistry and why his new practice, Maitland Pediatric Dentistry, will be the go-to choice for families in the area.

Thank you for taking the time to chat with us and for sharing your passion with our readers. With this opportunity to connect further with residents in the community, can you share a little bit about your background?

I come from a large family and I’m the oldest of 10 grandchildren. Taking care of others is something that came naturally to me. My interest in dentistry was heavily influenced by my aunt, who was the chair of the special needs dentistry department at Nova Southeastern University. I became exposed to the field and really discovered a love for it. I attended Nova Southeastern University for both dental school and my pediatric specialty. I then completed a one-year fellowship in special needs dentistry at Helen Hayes Hospital and Columbia University and became board certified shortly after. I moved with my family to Maitland in 2014 and have proudly practiced in the Orlando area. I am incredibly excited to start a new chapter and I’ll be opening my practice, Maitland Pediatric Dentistry, in December of this year.

Your moto is “Treating Your Family Like Our Own.” Please tell me more about that.

Everything circles back to family for me. When you come to our office, we want you to feel as comfortable as possible and have a good time.  My family lives by the golden rule, “treating others as you would like to be treated,” and I want to do that for every one of my patient’s families. As a father of two active toddlers, I understand the love parents have for their children and want to put that at the forefront of our relationship.

What attracted you to the pediatric field?

Participating in dental mission trips, community outreach and school prevention programs, I realized how much of an impact children made on me. It was more than just treating a cavity. There is nothing more rewarding to me than a patient coming into the office who is fearful, but then leaving with a high five and a smile. It became my goal to make going to the dentist a fun and positive experience for everyone I see. As every child is different, dentistry became new and exciting with each appointment.

Is there an ideal age at which children should visit a pediatric dentist?

An ideal age is within six months of the first tooth coming in or by at least age 1. If there hasn’t been a display of teeth by age 1, we would want to determine that there aren’t any underlying concerns.

It seems fair to say that healthy adult teeth stem heavily from having a proactive childhood approach to dental care, would you agree?

Yes, absolutely! Starting a healthy foundation is essential for a lifetime of good oral health. Sure, everyone has their genetic composition, but environmental factors like diet and oral hygiene routines can play a significant role. Baby teeth are very important. They are the space holders for the permanent teeth, but they are more prone to cavities than adult teeth, so good habits are very important to keep a long lasting healthy smile.

When making an appointment at Maitland Pediatric Dentistry, what can a parent typically expect during their first visit?

The office is designed with children in mind, from the waiting room to the clinical areas. We take an age-appropriate approach to each child. For young patients, it’s very important to be welcoming, take our time and not overwhelm. When they go into the exam room, we show them the instruments and explain what they do, how they’re used and how it helps them to have strong teeth. It’s really a learning experience for them. We keep everything open format, so it’s a comfortable situation for questions to be asked both by the child and the parents.

Dr. Domenic Aloise is more than just a dental professional; he is a partner in your child’s journey to a lifetime of healthy smiles. By choosing Maitland Pediatric Dentistry, you are investing in your child’s oral health and well-being.
