Restaurant news from throughout Greater Orlando
- Jason and Sue Chin, owners of The Osprey Tavern and Seito Sushi, have launched another eatery, Reyes Mezcaleria, in the former location of Citrus in Orlando’s North Quarter. The new restaurant, which focuses on regional Mexican cuisine, is spearheaded by Executive Chef Austin Boyd, formerly of Seito.
- Orlando’s craft-beer industry continues to blossom. The latest entry aiming to join the ranks, Tactical Brewing Company, has signed a 10-year lease in Baldwin Park. Owner Doug Meyer notes that his brews have had success at local beer festivals, including an award for “Favorite Beer” at the Downtown Orlando Beer Festival.
- Offering an Americanized take on Mexican street fare, Tin & Taco opened in downtown Orlando back in April. Featuring creative names like Tacosaurus, Hail Caesar and Bourbon Street, the counter-service restaurant’s tacos can also be had as a salad or “in the bag” (referring to a bag of Doritos chips).
- New owners have acquired Burton’s Bar in Thornton Park. Aaron Dudek and Jason Anderson, who also own The Lodge and The Woods, envision few changes to the iconic watering hole, which was known for affordable drinks and fun ambience. Todd Cohen, who previously owned the building, is also a partner in the enterprise.
- Winter Park residents will have a new place to sate their sweet tooth when The Glass Knife opens this fall. The dessert-oriented business is the brainchild of Executive Chef Stuart Whitfield, who previously worked for Four Seasons, Le Cirque and The Walt Disney Company, and is owned by Steve Brown.
