Local food and drink options we recommend trying

Top Five: Sushi
A quintet of tasty things to try this month

DRAGON ROLL
AT FUJI SUSHI, WINTER PARK

Seafood lovers will be wholly satisfied with the Dragon Roll here. Packed with a whopping quarter-pound of fresh shrimp, this entrée also includes eel, avocado and cream cheese, and the shrimp is flash fried for a mouthwatering finish.

DION’S OMG! ROLL
AT THE COWFISH SUSHI BURGER BAR, UNIVERSAL’S CITYWALK

The contemporary “Burgushi” restaurant known as Cowfish offers us a favorite. Dion’s OMG! Roll is a tangy treat featuring tempura shrimp and includes kani, cucumber, coconut flakes and avocado, with fresh mango and honey marmalade on top.

SWEET HEART ROLL
AT SUSHI 99, AVALON PARK

The selection is expansive at Sushi 99, but we are loyal to the Sweet Heart Roll. Spicy tuna is placed amidst sliced avocado, rolled delicately in soy paper, and topped with regular tuna and eel sauce.

VEGETABLE ROLL
AT MORIMOTO ASIA, DISNEY SPRINGS

Even vegetarians can enjoy a quality roll thanks to celebrity chef Masaharu Morimoto. His no-frills Vegetable Roll is prepared with fresh avocado, asparagus, cucumbers and carrots, and your choice of white or brown rice to wrap up.

MT. EVEREST ROLL
AT SHAKAI SUSHI LOUNGE, DOWNTOWN ORLANDO

Those seeking culinary creativity should look no further than Shakai Sushi Lounge. The Mt. Everest Roll combines seaweed salad and roe with a flash-fried California roll and finishes with delectable eel sauce for a unique shakedown.

Libations you’re sure to love

CAPTAIN KIWI COLADA
AT THE DAPPER DUCK, DOWNTOWN ORLANDO

Cool off in style with the newest creation from The Dapper Duck. Captain Morgan rum is mixed with fresh kiwi and sweet pineapple, and lemon and lime juices are added to the blend for a sweet and tangy beverage that’s not to be missed.

TIKI DRINKS
AT AKU AKU TIKI BAR, DOWNTOWN ORLANDO

This bar serves up unique tropical drinks in equally sultry glasses. From savory medleys like the Monkey Business cocktail, made with fresh bananas, to the aggressively spicy Fu Manchu, Aku Aku offers the best concoctions this side of the island.

FLORIDA PALOMA
AT LUKE’S KITCHEN AND BAR, MAITLAND

Florida natives will feel right at home with this cocktail at Luke’s Kitchen and Bar. Spicy tequila is blended with lime and a house-made grapefruit soda to create a sweetly satisfying beverage that’s sure to induce some nostalgia
