Peanut Butter and Pumpkin Dog Treats
The whole family can enjoy seasonal flavors ─ including the dog! There’s nothing scary about this easy-to-make Halloween recipe, but your dog will be howling in delight.
Ingredients
- 2 ½ cups whole wheat flour
- ½ cup canned pumpkin (do not use pumpkin pie filling which contains excess spices and sugar)
- ½ cup peanut butter (preferably organic)
- 2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- ½ cup water, as needed
- Pumpkin and/or Halloween-shaped cookie cutters
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Mix all ingredients, except water. Add in water sparingly, as needed (depending on the amount of oil in peanut butter, recipe may require up to ½ cup). Dough should be sticky, but not dry. If dry, add more water; if too sticky (sticking to fingers), add an additional pinch of flour.
- Roll dough out on a lightly-floured surface. Cut out treats using pumpkin-shaped cookie cutters; create indent designs with Halloween-shaped cookie cutters.
- Place treats on a greased cookie sheet. Bake 20 minutes. Cool completely before serving to dog or refrigerating. Warning: the smell of these treats is frighteningly good…you might just have to test one before your dog chows down!
