The elite team of doctors and staff makes sure to take the time necessary to fully meet the needs of their patients by offering support and reassurance about their condition. The practice provides comprehensive eye exams to diagnose and treat a full range of eye problems as well as educating patients on steps they can take to keep their eyes healthy and prevent future problems.
Central Florida Eye Specialists offer a wide spectrum of both medical and surgical options including the treatment of cataracts, cornea disease, glaucoma, tearing, eyelid surgery (functional and cosmetic), skin cancer reconstruction, orbital surgery, refractive surgery, high risk medication exams and emergencies. With a medical staff of doctors who are experts in the field of ophthalmology, a knowledgeable and caring staff as well as state-of-the-art technology, patients are sure to receive the high-level care they expect and deserve. Patients of the practice range in age from young infants (pending condition) to the elderly.
For those looking to improve their vision, the practice offers cataract surgery as well as Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE), an alternative to LASIK surgery. Of this advanced surgical procedure, board-certified ophthalmologist Dr. Kevin Barber says, “LASIK has been the most popular refractive surgical procedure for many years, especially for those patients below 50 years old. However, RLE is emerging as a preferred option for patients who are in their late 40s or older.”
He adds that, “With the advent of new intraocular lens technology, a full range of vision can now be given, which has advantages over LASIK. LASIK can offer distance vision in both eyes, but will still require reading classes for near activities. Or LASIK can offer mono vision, where one eye is set for distance and one eye is set for near. This does cause a reduction in depth perception and it is not permanent. Presbyopia, or the gradual loss of near vision through the aging process, continues through the mid-60s, and LASIK cannot accommodate for that. So, a drawback to LASIK is that patients may go back into reading glasses as they age. RLE can offer great distance, intermediate and near vision in both eyes. This preserves good depth perception and is permanent. RLE can be a better long-term solution for achieving a full range of vision.”
Dr. Barber notes, “RLE surgery has different risks associated with it compared to LASIK, so it’s important to find an eye surgeon who is comfortable discussing the pros and cons of both options.”
In addition to corrective eye procedures, Central Florida Eye Specialists also offers oculoplastic services, in which ophthalmologists not only care for the health of the eyes but also improve the look and function of structures around the eyes. Board-certified ophthalmologist Dr. Sanja Cypen explains, “We provide a wide variety of surgical and non-surgical procedures for patients with eyelid, facial and orbital concerns. Many of these procedures can be performed under local anesthesia, including removal of lumps and bumps around the eyes, eyelid lifts and biopsies.”
Dr. Cypen adds, “We also offer functional and cosmetic Botox treatments (for spasms around the eyes or face and for facial wrinkles) and dermal fillers for facial rejuvenation. More invasive surgeries, including skin cancer or other eyelid reconstructions, orbital surgery, and cosmetic lower eyelid blepharoplasty and forehead lifts, are performed in the operating room under anesthesia.”
Whatever the age or the eye care needs of their patients may be, the team at Central Florida Eye Specialists is ready and equipped to provide ideal care and exceed expectations.
