Infertility can be one of the most devastating events for patients to endure. There are psychological and emotional ramifications that pile up like hopelessness, guilt, frustration, anxiety, loneliness and even depression. When faced with infertility, having the support of a professional team that is known for high rates of success and—just as important—for their compassion and care, is monumental. Fortunately, The IVF Center in Winter Park offers all of that, and more.   

The practice’s roots began with Mark Trolice, MD, director of The IVF Center and professor at the University of Central Florida’s College of Medicine (UCF-COM), whose personal 10-year struggle with infertility was the impetus for his patient-centered practice. Author of The Fertility Doctor’s Guide to Overcoming Infertility, Dr. Trolice founded The IVF Center in 2003. Since then, it has grown leaps and bounds, including the more recent addition of Laurel Stadtmauer, MD, PhD, also a professor at UCF-COM. Together they are committed to the practice’s mission “to transform the field of reproductive health by prioritizing the patient experience through extraordinary and innovative clinical care and by our commitment to education and research.” 

Dr. Trolice says The IVF Center’s goal is to empower patients while also educating the next generation of physicians currently training at UCF. The practice is also opening a new satellite office in Lake Nona on the campus of UCF-COM, where he and Dr. Stadtmauer are both teaching faculty.

While there have been numerous accomplishments to tout—including impressive pregnancy success rates—Dr. Trolice says that he is most proud of the practice’s patient-centered care. This focus has been exemplified by the recent hire of a Director of Patient Experience as well as their longstanding Licensed Clinical Reproductive Psychologist. Patients also gain access to an IVF nurse who is available 24/7 to answer questions and provide guidance.  

In addition, Dr. Trolice says the practice invests in providing all patients complementary and life-long access to the Organic Conceptions program (Organic-Conceptions.com), which is the latest in cognitive behavioral therapy and emotional health support for patients during the fertility journey which is well known to take a mental health toll.

“When you are up against a wall thinking that you will never be a parent, and that was a life goal, it can be paralyzing,” he admits. “You can feel alone and overwhelmed. We understand that we are the main part of our patients’ comfort and we are committed to our all-inclusive policy of offering reproductive services to all patients who want to build a family.” 

There’s also his strong emphasis on giving back to the community as a whole. One upcoming example is the The IVF Center’s CME conference on Clinical Advances in Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, which will feature national speakers. Later that evening is a black tie gala to support PCOS Challenge—The National PCOS Association (PCOSChallenge.org) will be held at The Abbey in Orlando and feature the world-renowned Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, jazz vocalists Michelle Amato and Mark Romeo—Dr. Trolice’s alter ego—and nationally recognized comedian Steve Mittleman.

In 2023, Dr. Trolice says that they will launch the inaugural SouthEast Reproduction & Fertility (SERF) conference which is expected to have national and international attendance.

Ever improving and focused on continual advancements, Dr. Trolice will be graduating with an MBA degree in Healthcare Management and Strategic Planning and plans to increase advocating for mandatory infertility insurance coverage at the state and national level. His vision for the future is broad as he has plans to develop a comprehensive reproductive health science center that will accommodate regional as well as national and international patients, furthering the practice’s all-inclusive approach which includes its staunch support of the LGBTQ community. 

“My career is a true passion for me,” he says. “I am unrelenting in moving the field forward and we are putting together the pieces to make a world-class center happen. It will be a paradigm shift for reproductive patient care, education and research in Florida.” 

Outside of his life’s work, Dr. Trolice says his hobbies are running, singing, writing, and spending time with his wonderful wife and five children. 

While patients challenged with infertility feel like they are in dark times, Dr. Trolice is adamant 

to offer H.O.P.E.—his acronym to Have Only Positive Energy. 

“The advances this field has already made are remarkable,” he says. “But I am someone who never rests on any accomplishment—instead I am always looking forward to advance our field and improve patient care. In the end, it’s about the impact on people to provide them the opportunity to build their family in less invasive and more affordable ways.”
