After working in the industry for many years, Marcos Davila decided to start his own business with his wife, Megan. MD Construction was founded in 2014 in Winter Haven, providing its customers all of the same quality products it still offers today.

The company’s most popular items include its screened enclosures, which surround pools to keep them debris-free, meet safety requirements and provide shade and privacy, and its screened rooms with insulated aluminum rooms that help cut down on heat. MD Construction also offers full sunrooms; screen wall additions under existing roofs, such as a rear lanai; and aluminum fencing.

“We mostly do the screened enclosures and screened rooms. Most people prefer the bronze frame over the white frame. That has been consistent,” Megan Davila says. “One thing that’s changed are the paver colors. In the colors that we offer, a few years ago people preferred the more brown colors. Now they want the more gray colors.”

“They call, we’ll go out,” Davila says. “We offer a two-year warranty on workmanship. A lot of companies offer one year.”

When working with MD Construction, customers don’t need to worry about permitting paperwork. The company additionally handles HOA approvals whenever possible, and if the HOA application goes through a private online portal, they will assist customers by providing all paperwork to submit.

All work by MD Construction is also up to all Florida building codes and hurricane wind requirements—something that doesn’t seem important until it is.

“People normally don’t care about impact resistance until a hurricane is in the forecast, and then they’re like, ‘Oh, is this rated for hurricane winds?’” Davila says. “It’s engineered for up to 130 mph. Vinyl and acrylic windbreakers are engineered for up to 75 mph, and then should be removed.”

From Start to Finish

Once a customer reaches out to MD Construction, a sales appointment is scheduled and the process gets underway, with attention to detail and customer satisfaction being the focal point.

“One of our sales managers will go out to the house and find out exactly what the customer wants. We talk to them about options, show them the different products we offer, and give them an estimate,” Davila says.

Customers don’t need to sign immediately, although there is a $250 discount for those who do sign off with the first sales estimate. Otherwise, the sales representative will come back when the customers is ready for paperwork. The cost is divided by four payments, and the first quarter is due at signing for the deposit.

From here, drawings and plans are completed within a week or so, and once approved, it’s full steam ahead. For most products, the time from a signed contract to job completion is about four-to-six months, according to Davila, although due to the custom nature of the sunrooms, those jobs can take up to eight-to-10 months.
