Perfecting Smiles, Changing Lives

Fravel Brewer Orthodontics defies patients’ expectations of an orthodontist visit, making it an experience they will look forward to while progressing toward the smiles of their dreams.

When Dr. Breck Brewer, DDS, MS, joined Fravel Brewer Orthodontics six years ago, he already had a 12-year history of utilizing his skills to help others by serving in the U.S. military. After two tours of duty assisting military personnel and their families—and multiple honors as a Lieutenant Colonel—Dr. Brewer decided that he wanted to pursue a private orthodontic practice. He met with Dr. William K. Fravel, DMD, who established the practice in 1987, and found that their patient-first values aligned.

“We connected and found we work really well together. So I joined the team, and the rest is history,” Dr. Brewer recalls. “It continues to be a great practice for our patients and our community.”

The benefits exceed the confidence boosting cosmetic advantages, as orthodontic work can also provide improved physical comfort. Following the standards of The American Association of Orthodontics, Dr. Brewer is able to individualize his care to each patient’s unique concern. Although he remarks that orthodontics and cosmetics are one and the same, physical benefits can include creating a stable bite to chew better, promoting healthier gums and helping with speech.

“My early exposure was in the chair myself with my braces when I was a teenager, and I found the environment to be really kind of fun and exciting. As I decided on dentistry, I sort of looked at the landscape of the dental world and still felt like orthodontics had the most to offer me as far as a great environment, a great patient base, and just a really fulfilling type of job,” says Dr. Brewer.

It is an exciting prospect to have treatment from thoroughly trained professionals who emphasize patient comfort and are passionate about achieving life-changing new smiles. Still, new patients may have some anxiety about visiting. That is why the team at Fravel Brewer Orthodontics strives to make the office full of activities, games and incentives.

“I love—not only to see the before and afters and the confidence that we can give our patients—but the real thrill  is in figuring out the puzzle of how we’re going to take someone that may not fit together very well with their bite or with their alignment, and make the decisions that are required to get them into that awesome final result,” Dr. Brewer continues. “I love this profession; I think it’s really fun. We try very hard in our office to make this a very positive experience with a fun environment, lively music and games and a no-pressure type of situation.”

The practice—occupied by video games in the reception area, trivia contests with gift card prizes to win, and an “orthodollar” store with prizes to reward teeth care—is entertaining for any age, but provides an extra element of enthusiasm for children to return for their next appointment. Patients will also look forward to the newest in orthodontic innovation, such as Invisalign as an alternative to braces. If opting for braces however, there are endless color combinations to choose from and to customize.

Both orthodontists are firm believers in the importance of timing and early intervention, and Dr. Brewer recommends having an orthodontist take a first look as early as seven years old. While younger children do not usually require treatment yet, it allows the pediatric dentist to see any early indications of how the teeth and jaws will line up. The supervision program offered at Fravel Brewer Orthodontics monitors for any cases that do require treatment and consists of complimentary checkups every six-to-nine months.

“It all really boils down to: I want them to have an instant comfortableness in the office, and I want them to feel a sense of trust that they came to the right place, that we’ve got their best interests at heart and we want them to have an amazing smile for years to come,” Dr. Brewer affirms. “We can bring that to them through a positive experience, whether it’s braces or Invisalign, and it’s something that they will look back on fondly. At the end of the day, we all want to build relationships and so it’s great to have new friends all the time.”
