This lad inspired poem ─ penned by Chip Crawford, President of the Central Florida Scottish Highland Games
─ will ignite your Celtic spirit!
On a search for my heritage… a longing to hold,
‘Twas a morning in January, I stepped out in the cold.The whispering voice in the wind since a tot,
Spoke to me so direct proclaiming, “Lad, you’re a Scot!”So I followed its lead to nearby Winter Springs,
To Central Winds Park wherein wildlife still sings.The hills were alive with bagpipes and good smells,
Plus rhythmic drums and athletic yells.The colors of clans, so many plaids;
Heritage held by moms, kids, and dads.I saw dogs herding sheep guided by a whistle.
The flower of Scotland displayed ─ a thistle.A city of tents where vendors did sell,
So much Scottish stuff; who else could I tell?The pipe bands were marching; the dancers flung true.
There was archery, knights, meat pies, cold brew.Yes, my spirit was soaring; my past quickly grew.
I achieved my long quest at those olde Scottish games.
I hold dear all the history of so many names.If it’s your turn to wander the heritage pass,
It might help you to hold onto a red-headed lass!
