Service With a Smile
In addition to providing excellent orthodontic care, the team at Fravel Brewer Orthodontics continues to give back to the community through its philanthropic efforts.
When Drs. William Fravel and Breck Brewer met nearly seven years ago, they clicked almost immediately over their shared commitment to not only providing top-notch orthodontic care but also giving back to their community in meaningful ways. A professional partnership known as Fravel Brewer Orthodontics was soon born, and their bond has only grown stronger since then.
“Little did we know how well it was going to work—it’s gone about as successful as we could have hoped,” Dr. Brewer says. “For him, a practice that he built, developed and loved has continued to flourish, and he’s carved out a role where he can still have an active part without being as active as before. And for me, I got a chance to provide excellent care and to also be a face for the community. We’ve been able to set some great goals and reach those goals.”
Fravel Brewer Orthodontics aims to create beautiful smiles for patients ranging from children to teens to adults in a comfortable setting. The doctors and staff take pride in transforming people’s smiles and boosting their self-confidence through innovative and effective treatment methods.
But the practice’s impact extends well beyond the walls of its Ocoee office, as community service has been a priority since its earliest days.
One of the most significant ways Fravel Brewer gives back is through its partnership with Smile for a Lifetime, a national nonprofit that provides orthodontic treatment for children from low-income backgrounds who otherwise may not be able to afford it. The practice welcomes six local patients every year for free braces, and those children pay it forward by choosing initiatives to support in the area.
Fravel Brewer teams up with Chick-Fil-A and the city of Ocoee to co-sponsor a kids’ fun run in conjunction with the Chick-Fil-A 5K, held during the Ocoee Music Festival. A different nonprofit is chosen as the beneficiary each year, and the event also gives the team an opportunity to create awareness about oral health.
Education is clearly important to the practice, which is why Dr. Brewer takes part in a teaching program with Orange County Public Schools where he talks to fourth and fifth graders about his profession in order to generate interest in a possible dentistry career down the line. Fravel Brewer also offers a program called “Field trips for the future,” in which local first graders come to the office for an entertaining and educational field trip.
“We have a series of science stations that we guide them through to teach them the importance of oral health, nutrition and making sure they’re doing their part to take care of their teeth,” Dr. Brewer says. “The kids love it: They get out of school, they get to go on a bus and come to our office, and we put on a puppet show and a magic show for them. We’ve been doing it for years and the teachers are always asking us to keep it on the calendar.”
Every Halloween, Fravel Brewer partners with the organization Soldiers Angels on an initiative called Treats for Troops, collecting almost 700 pounds of candy to be donated to veterans and active-duty military personnel.
“This is a particularly personal activity that we do because I am also a veteran and I served 12 years in the U.S. Army, and during my deployment it was amazing to see the number of thank you cards and snacks that [were] donated all the way over to Iraq,” Dr. Brewer says. “It just gave me a sense of connectedness to people, so I think it’s a great thing we can do just to tell our veterans that we appreciate what they’ve done for us.”
Closer to home, Fravel Brewer supports a nonprofit named Eight Waves, which is seeking to build a children’s museum in Winter Garden. The entire staff also participates in two service days per year, where they close the office and volunteer at local organizations like Second Harvest Food Bank.
As Fravel Brewer is doing its part to make Central Florida a better place to live, the practice will continue to re-evaluate each year to discover more ways it can help.
“Obviously, we’re here to build confidence through creating smiles with Invisalign and braces, and we like to think we do a great job of that,” Dr. Brewer says. “But it’s bigger than that: We want to make sure we’re doing things the right way and with the people of this community in mind, and if we can use our talents and our time to make people’s lives better, not just in the realm of dentistry but outside of that, then we want to be a part of it. I just think it’s a great way to live your life and a great way to run a business, and we’ve been blessed a hundred fold because of the times we’ve given back in these ways.”
