School Pride

A look at some of the more unique offerings at Greater Orlando’s private high schools.

The Geneva School’s SALT Serveathon

Training Leaders

Each summer, rising juniors and seniors at Lake Highland Preparatory School (LHPS) participate in the Leadership Academy at Outdoor Odyssey. During the week-long program, participants travel to Pennsylvania’s Central Highlands region and participate in activities that challenge their physical, mental and emotional tenacity. After refining their leadership skills, the juniors and seniors then mentor LHPS middle-school students, providing an example to younger schoolmates and fostering love, concern and respect across campus.

Serving SALT

The Geneva School hosts an annual Serving and Learning Together (SALT) Serveathon: a fun, educational and heart-changing day of community service. SALT’s also a philanthropic effort that provides funds for critical programs. Similar to charity 5Ks or selling holiday gifts, students seek pledges from family, friends, neighbors and businesses to obtain financial sponsorship for their day of service. On SALT day, approximately 700 students, parents, faculty and staff donate more than 3,500 hours to the community by volunteering at 13 local nonprofits. Last year, SALT raised more than $100,000 for the school while enriching Greater Orlando.

J-Term January

In January, The Master’s Academy high-school students participate in J-Term. This two-week semester enables students to enroll in intensive courses of their choice, take on internships, or travel abroad. This year, participants can travel to Germany, Austria and Switzerland, as well as to Costa Rica on a mission trip.

Teaching Missions

For the past four years, students at Bishop Moore Catholic High School have had the opportunity to participate in mission trips to the Dominican Republic, with two trips planned this year. The students travel to schools in Bishop Moore’s sister diocese and teach children for a week.

Strong Foundation

Foundation Academy students traditionally start the school year with a two-day, off-campus retreat. Students engage in community and team-building activities as they build memories, forge friendships and foster spiritual growth.
